5 Unique Skills You Can Teach Your Kids

December 6, 2020 by Maggie Bloom Leave a Comment

Making sure your children are ready for the world is part of your job, but it’s not easy to know what skills to pass on. By teaching your kids new things and keeping their minds sharp, you aren’t only getting to spend quality time with them, but are also teaching them things that they can easily apply in the workplace, school, with friends, and build upon to possibly pursue as a career path later on. Another bonus of teaching your kids these unique things is that you might be able to learn something new as well. It can be a fun learning/bonding experience for you both!

The following are five important unique skills you should teach your children when they’re ready.

1. Podcasting

One unique skill you can teach your kids is podcasting. This is similar to blogging except you’re using your voice. Podcasting may seem like a personal voice journal, but it requires a lot of skills your kids can use in the future. Storytelling, marketing, sound editing, sound production, and many other skills will be needed. On top of all that, your kids might be successful podcasters and end up making money at a young age doing nothing but talking to their audience, which is pretty cool.

Podcasting is an easy skill to pick up, and you can do it out of the comfort of your own home. You might want to invest in a quality microphone and ask friends and family about different topics they want to hear about!

2. Creating an App

Another unique skill that you can teach your kids is to create an App. It’s important that your kids know how to create an app for iPhone or Android systems. Knowing how to do this requires various skills, like learning how to code and learning a bit about market research. It’s a creative skill that requires your kids to not only identify a problem but solve it using technology. In addition to that, your kids will also be able to create an app, and that could be helpful when they want to get a job later on. The need for coders and app makers is only going to grow, which gives your kids an advantage.

There are plenty of online resources where you can find out how to begin to create an app. Learning how to code and how to create apps can come in super handy when it comes time to search for a job or passion.

3. A Bit of Robotics

Robotics is another thing your kids should learn for the future. This is the kind of thing kids could have fun with, but it does require several skills. Your kids will have to learn math and science to understand what they’re doing. They’ll have to program effectively and be able to work with a group of kids. Complex problem solving is another vital skill you’re kids will need to master if they want to be able to deal with everything involved with robotics. This unique skill for the kids is not only interesting but the future will perfect robotics, and your kids can be a part of the progress if they choose to.

4. A.I. for Kids

Your kids should also learn about artificial intelligence (AI). There’s no doubt this is a growing science that’s bound to become more important in the future. The IoT all use artificial intelligence, and this is just the beginning. Those virtual assistants that recognize speech and place an order for you at your favorite online store use A.I. Your kids need to be ready for that world, and you can make sure they can understand A.I. basics at a young age. As things get complex, they’ll be able to follow along easily.

A.I. is becoming much more prevalent and necessary to use. If you jump on learning how to deal with A.I. your kids will be ultra prepared for whatever is thrown at them!

5. Learning Cloud Computing

Cloud computing is another unique skill that your kid can learn. Nowadays everything or everyone is using cloud computing for their work or business. This reality should get parents interested in getting their kids involved. Being able to get work done on a computer without worrying about having enough storage in-house is great. The cloud gives people and businesses an endless amount of space for their work that they can access anywhere as long as they’ve got the internet. It’s easy to see why the cloud is growing in popularity and why knowing how to work it will be vital in the future. The younger your kids start to learn the cloud, the easier it’ll be for them when they get put into the workplace. It will give them an edge over their peers and an overall competitive advantage.

Hopefully, you can get your kids to learn the skills mentioned here so that they’re more prepared to deal with everything the future has in store for them. There are online classes for them, or you can have them attend camps for kids to learn these skills with other kids their age.

If there any other unique skills that you feel will come in handy for the kids, then let us know in the comments below. Learning is a never-ending process and anything new will definitely help come in handy for the coming generations.

Cheers!!!
