This colossal canine is the oldest English breed and it dates back centuries. Though massive in size, these adorable dogs are more likely to lick you than lunge at you.

English Mastiffs’s are very easy-going and laid back, just like couch potatoes- provided you give them a large couch. English Mastiffs are heavy-boned and muscular, they take up a lot of space. English Mastiffs are massive dogs weighing up to 63 to 91 kg. As per the American Kennel Club, the average height of these breeds is 30 inches for males and 27.5 inches for females. The English Mastiff has a wide set of eyes and a wrinkled forehead. They come in three distinct colors- fawn, apricot, and brindle.

The English Mastiff dog does not require a large home. An average-size home will do perfectly. English Mastiffs are not very energetic dogs. They are slow-moving dogs and as such, they do not require much exercise. A stroll every day in the park or outside will do just fine. If you are a neat freak then beware. English Mastiffs have large feet. So be prepared to get your home dirty.  Apart from that, they drool a lot. So a towel should always be around.

Like all massive dogs, English Mastiffs also suffer from a lot of health problems. Hip dysplasia, obesity, bloating, cancer, and eye diseases can occur in this breed. English Mastiffs live for 10 to 12 years. English Mastiffs do not require much grooming. Bathing these giants can be tiresome as you may have trouble getting them in the bathtub. English Mastiffs respond moderately well to obedience training but will require patience as they do not do anything quickly.

English Mastiff dogs are docile and devoted to their family. They are gentle giants but are not for everyone. Early socialization is the key to avoid having any kind of behavioral problems. If you have small children at home, it is advisable to keep them under check. English Mastiffs are not known to be aggressive, but due to their sheer size, they may possibly knock over your child which may lead to accidents. This is a common thing with all big breeds of dogs. So be careful not to leave young kids or toddlers alone with any large breed of dogs.

English Mastiffs are known for their grandeur and good nature. They are docile, trustworthy, and courageous. If this colossal canine fits the bill, then make them a part of your life and family.
